“Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner’s wife, Christine, filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage. She revealed the reason for her move.
A day before his wife’s filing, Kevin was seen wearing his wedding ring while enjoying the company of two women in Las Vegas.
The actor and his wife looked very much in love just months before the shocking announcement.
Kevin Costner’s wife, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce one day after he was seen wearing his wedding band. The sighting also included the “Yellowstone” star embracing two women in Las Vegas.
In 1978, the actor married his first wife, Cindy Silva, and they welcomed three children, Annie in April 1984, Lilly in August 1986, and Joe in January 1988, and then divorced in 1994. The star said his faith was shaken when their marriage concluded as no one wished that upon themselves.
He lamented the loss, noting how he only saw the people he loved most, his children, half as much as before. The year after his divorce, Kevin allegedly married his second wife, Bridget Rooney, and they had a son, Liam, born in November 1996, and divorced in 1998.
After meeting Baumgartner in the 1980s, the pair met again in 1999 and started dating. They spent six years in a relationship before she threatened to leave him if he didn’t yield to the idea of them having a child, and they broke up because he felt he wouldn’t make a sufficient father.
However, after realizing that losing a “beautiful woman” willing to be with him forever wasn’t worth his fear of having a child. He surrendered to her ultimatum, and they got back together after a short break and married in September 2014.
The couple had three more children, Cayden, Hayes, and Grace, while Kevin said his family made life more appreciatable. Things appeared to be great between Baumgartner and her husband, with him praising her shortly before the shocking divorce news.
The Couple’s Relationship Seemed to Be Bliss before the Divorce Announcement
Before Baumgartner filed for divorce, she and Kevin seemed very much in love. In March 2022, he shared an Instagram photo of him holding his wife while she looked lovingly at him at the Oscars, and he asked, “How beautiful is my date?”
Months before the filing, in November 2022, the actor confessed that his wife did things that helped him. He praised her for keeping their home pretty and said things were warmer because of her involvement before adding:
“There’s these little things that she does, and I think it’s the power of love, but that she makes her home that way.”
In early 2023, after the actor was nominated and won Best Actor for his role as “Yellowstone’s” John Dutton, he released a video apologizing for missing the Golden Globes ceremony. He explained in the Valentine’s Day post that he and Baumgartner couldn’t attend because of the California flood that blocked the freeway.
Seeing how disappointed he was that he couldn’t make the event, his wife went out with $30 and bought 30 balloons in gold, yellow, black, and silver to cheer him up. They watched the Golden Globes together with their children and celebrated his win.
The couple had wanted to attend that evening, and he had a tuxedo while his wife had a dress. Baumgartner even pulled their children out of school for the special occasion so she could support her husband.
The woman [Diahann Hall], who appeared to be a fan, described Kevin [Costner] and [Luke] Wilson as “just the nicest guys!”
However, the couple suddenly faced divorce months after all that happiness and celebration. Just before the divorce news broke, Kevin was seen happy in the presence of other women.
Why Did Kevin’s Wife File for Divorce and What Happened a Day Before?
A day before Baumgartner filed for divorce, Kevin, then 68, was seen at Las Vegas’ Milano Restaurant and Bar with the team he worked with for the screening of “Horizon: An American Saga.” Laura Migliorini, the owner and chef of the establishment, posed alongside the actor with her partner and manager, Laura Trent.
Migliorini shared the two images of her and Trent being embraced by the wedding ring-wearing star on her restaurant’s Instagram. In the post’s caption, she noted how it was a pleasure to have hosted him for dinner and described him as A “wonderful actor.”
Diahann Hall, who was at the private screening, noted how her friend, Jaki Baskow, had invited her and Doug Taylor for the pre-screening of Kevin’s movie. Hall was chuffed because she got to sit next to the celebrity at the dinner for half the day and across from Luke Wilson.
The woman, who appeared to be a fan, described Kevin and Wilson as “just the nicest guys!” She revealed that several stars attended the screening, but photos weren’t allowed, and thanked Baskow for the experience.
It was reported that Kevin was set to produce, direct, and star in a new Western Project, which would involve 2020 days of filming. There was also speculation of him appearing in “Yellowstone’s” sixth season, which would see him being away from his wife and children for most of the year.
Baumgartner filed for divorce after being in an 18-year marriage to Kevin on May 1, 2023. However, the reason why the separation occurred wasn’t announced besides her citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The actor’s representative confirmed the news noting how “circumstances beyond his control” caused Kevin to agree to the divorce. They asked for the whole family’s privacy as they tackled the matter.
The star’s wife asked for joint custody of their children, and the following day, her husband filed his response asking for the same. Baumgartner didn’t want spousal support, but Kevin’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, had a reply.
In her court filing, Wasser revealed in their response that a prenuptial agreement would determine what would happen in that regard. Although some sources said Kevin was married to Rooney, others noted Baumgartner as his second wife.
