Bridget Moynahan, who is known for her role in the police drama “Blue Bloods,” once discussed how turning into a single mother completely changed her life.
Not a lot of people know that before Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen got together, he was in a relationship with Bridget Moynahan, with whom he shares a son. Only two months after Brady and Bundchen began dating in December 2006, he found out that his ex was pregnant.
In August 2007, the “Blue Bloods” actress gave birth to John Edward Thomas Moynahan. At the time, the actress revealed that Tom was there on the day of their son’s birth, and he visited afterward as well.
MOYNAHAN ON MOTHERHOOD
In a July 2008 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Moynahan talked about her willingness as a single mother to raise her son Jack. She admitted that while people expect motherhood to be easy, she went home sobbing, realizing she had a newborn she had no training for.
Much to her surprise, it’s been basically smooth sailing since. She never thought her life would be okay without a husband. She added:
“I’m not sure anyone — and I could be wrong in this — grows up thinking, I want to be a single mom.”
From 2004 until 2006, Moynahan dated NFL quarterback Tom Brady. Her representative confirmed their split in December 2006, while Brady was already dating Bundchen at the time.
In February 2007, her representative confirmed that she was over three months pregnant with Brady’s child. She looks back at that time, acknowledging it was traumatic as she was both heartbroken and pregnant.
Although she fully embraced being a mom to Jack, she admitted that it was difficult to be caught in a media frenzy where the spotlight was on her carrying the child alone while Brady moved on to another woman. She once shared:
“When you’re suddenly pregnant and no one is standing by your side, even if you’re in your 30s, it’s a hard conversation.”
Moynahan added that although she was in her 30s, she was a traditional girl that believed in marriage. Growing up, she thought that was the way she would be raising her family. In fact, it was hard for her to accept that the way she had Jack was how she was having a family.
Regardless of media reports that Moynahan and Brady had a difficult relationship, they’ve kept things civil and have committed to raising their child together.
Moynahan shared that she and Brady made a conscious decision to raise their child together alongside their respective partners.
While Brady married Bundchen in 2009, Moynahan wed businessman Andrew Frankel in 2015. Despite everything that happened in the past, the four of them have each taken steps to make sure Jack grew up in the best environment.
When Brady won his 10th Super Bowl, he made sure to point out that someone very special was in the stands to watch him. After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the championship against the Green Bay Packers, the superstar made sure to rush to the stands to get a hug from his son.
The legendary athlete climbed the barrier to embrace Jack, telling him: “Love you, kiddo.” In a post-game interview, Brady also made sure to say:
“He’s a special kid. I love my family. Obviously, I love my team, and there’s just no greater feeling than to spend those moments with all of us together after a great win.”
The same way Jack was extremely happy for his dad about the win, Moynahan was, too. She dedicated a post to him on Instagram to congratulate him, and fans commended them for their good relationship with one another as co-parents.
When Bundchen found out that her then-boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend was pregnant, she didn’t know what to do. However, after everything, she admits that she couldn’t have asked for a sweeter “bonus child.”
On top of that, Bundchen and Moynahan now share a good relationship with one another. In fact, they talk to each other as much as Brady and Moynahan do.
Although Moynahan had the primary responsibility of raising their son Jack through the years, Brady was never far away. In fact, they made the decision to raise their child together alongside their partners. She shared:
“Tom and I made a decision to raise a child together and we both found partners that not only supported us in raising that child, but also loved our child as if he was their own.”
After Brady married Bundchen in 2009, they went on to have a son named Benjamin, 12, and a daughter named Vivian, 9. Both are very close to their half-brother and enjoy their time together whenever they can.
This year, during Mother’s Day, the NFL superstar made sure to pay tribute to the two women in his life. He shared a black-and-white family photo in his greeting to Bundchen, while he shared an Instagram Story of Moynahan with Bundchen and their son.
Likewise, Bundchen also gave Moynahan a shoutout by sharing a photo of her with producer Jody Joynes. She captioned it with “Happy Mother’s Day to these supermoms.”
Ultimately, Moynahan is grateful to be her son Jack’s mother. She once revealed that motherhood has helped her learn how to focus on what’s important, and it’s helped her more than modeling and acting ever could.
