In a society that often pressures women to fade into the background as they age, Jamie Lee Curtis is challenging the narrative, redefining what it means to age gracefully.
With a career spanning decades and a spirit that defies societal expectations, Curtis constantly serves as an inspiration for a generation of women who embrace their later years as a time filled with opportunity.

Pro-aging advocate
Amidst a culture that’s becoming more and more fixated on the concept of “anti-aging,” Curtis has advocated for striking the phrase from our vocabulary. Speaking at the Radically Reframing Aging Summit last year, she said: “This word ‘anti-aging’ has to be struck. I am pro-aging. I want to age with intelligence, grace, dignity, verve, and energy.”
Clearly, the Freaky Friday actress refuses to view aging as something to be hidden or ashamed of; instead, she’s looking to embrace every moment of the journey.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Curtis reflected on the ages at which her parents passed away — her mother, Janet Leigh, at 79 and her father, Tony Curtis, at 85. Because of this, Curtis is aware of the realities of aging, and is determined to focus on enjoying her life and cherishing her family.
The Oscar winner also said during the interview that she has actually found Contrary to societal expectations, Curtis found the years leading up to her mid-sixties to be the most creatively fulfilling of her life.
Turning 65 with confidence
After turning 65 recently, Curtis took to Instagram to post a selfie that showed off her legs. Her confident stance and clothing choice — a pair of black shorts — symbolized more than a fashion statement; they represented Curtis’ commitment to promoting body positivity at every age.
Fans took to the comments to express their admiration for Curtis, with one person saying: “You’re truly an inspiration to those of us who are your age! Beautiful!”
Another fan wrote: “So beautiful inside & out!”
Many agreed that aging doesn’t mean the end of life’s opportunities, with someone else chiming in with: “60’s are full of new opportunities.”
Despite her public persona, Curtis had been open and honest about her moments of insecurity, especially when she sees herself in the mirror after having a shower. “When I get out of the shower, I just turn my back on the mirror and dry myself in a nice moment, rather than looking in the mirror as I dry myself,” she admitted, adding that she prefers not to judge her appearance.
For Curtis, avoiding constant scrutiny in the mirror is helping her journey toward self-acceptance.
Curtis’ openness about her self-acceptance journey is not only refreshing but also deeply empowering for women who are also on their own paths through aging. No one is saying you can learn to totally love yourself overnight, but working towards self-acceptance is always a good start.
