Celine Dion’s health has been a subject of speculation ever since her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome (SPS) last year.
The iconic sister earlier this week canceled her entire upcoming world tour, writing on Twitter: ”I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again…“
The 55-year-old broke the news of her diagnosis late last year in an emotional video on Instagram. She described stiff person syndrome as a “one in a million” condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, causing painful spasms and limited mobility. At present, the condition is incurable.
Since the confirmation of her ongoing health issues, Dion has kept a relatively low profile all things considered. According to Radar Online, though, sources have claimed “it’s been a difficult time for her”.
Earlier this month, the My Heart Will Go On singer was due to appear on the red carpet for the premiere of new film Love Again. The flick marks Dion’s big screen debut, but while fellow stars Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan turned out for the event, Dion was nowhere to be seen.
As per Radar, the Canadian songstress was not well enough to attend the premiere, sparking further fears as to her overall condition and health.
“She’s having difficulty walking and experiences periods of intense pain that come out of nowhere,” an insider is said to have told the news outlet.
“Celine is keeping her condition private at the moment, but her life has changed drastically.
“She sees specialists like a neurologist, a holistic practitioner, and occupational and physical therapists. Still, she is holding out hope that she can beat the odds.”
On a slightly brighter note, Radar also cite sources that claim Dion is doing her utmost to rally her strength in order to embark on a 2024 comeback tour.
“She’s refusing to accept defeat,” said a source, who said Celine is utilizing physiotherapy and yoga in the hope of making a return to the stage next year.
“What she needs is to embrace the treatment. And a LOT of R&R.”
Said insider concluded: “She’s going to fight this with everything she’s got. She just wants to sing live in front of an audience again. She’s determined to perform on stage. It’s sad that her illness is preventing her from doing the thing she loves most. Knowing Celine, she will perform again very soon.”
As stated, Dion has kept a low profile since announcing that she was canceling her upcoming 42-date tour, but her sister Claudette has provided updates on her condition, expressing optimism.
“I am confident that life will give her back what she gave because she is an extremely intelligent woman, so very generous and talented and in love with life as well,” Claudette said to the Le Journal de Montreal.
“Rather than crying over her fate, I try to send her positive vibes in the hope that one day she will go back on stage.”
