Bruce Willis’ youngest daughter’s recent act of support towards her father, who is diagnosed with dementia, left her mother in tears.
Willis has always been a caring and loving father, and as he battles dementia, his family also shows him lots of love and support.
The actor’s dementia has progressed, and the condition has no treatment to slow or stop it.
Bruce Willis and his family revealed in 2022 that the actor was diagnosed with dementia. Willis is a father to 5 children. He had three children with his ex-wife Demi Moore. These kids are Rummer, 34, Scott LaRue, 31, and Tallulah Belle, 29.
The actor’s two other kids are with his current wife, Emma Heming. Heming and Willis’ kids are Mabel Ray,11, and Evelynn Penn, 9. Heming revealed that their little girl recently made a sweet gesture concerning her father’s condition that made her cry.
In a video shared on Instagram, Heming said that her daughter told her she had been researching information concerning dementia at school during her free time:
“I have to tell you this story, and I’m going to try to do it without crying because when Evelyn told me this story, I was an absolute puddle.”
As per the British model, Penn told her that people with dementia could be severely dehydrated. Penn told her mother that she knew this information because she was looking up fun facts about dementia.
Heming then told her daughter that she would always ensure her husband has a bottle of water in hand. She revealed that Penn was just like her father because they both love looking up random facts. Heming also praised her daughter for conducting the research:
“But that is the most loving and compassionate thing you can do is to be curious and educate yourself on your dad’s disease.”
Heming also encouraged caregivers, friends, and families to educate themselves about their loved one’s diseases as her daughter had done.
She noted that being in the know will ensure people can show up for and support their loved ones in the best way possible as they battle diseases. “So, keep educating yourself, stay curious, and remember to hydrate your loved ones,” Heming added.
In the post shared, Heming also left a quote from Adria Thompson, a speech-language pathologist who shares dementia care tips. The quote encouraged people to have more insight into the world of people with dementia and the life they are experiencing:
“On behalf of the person you’re caring for that has dementia, whether they can express it or not—I want to say thank you. Thank you for loving them, thank you for spending time to educate yourself about dementia.”
Willis’ family has shown immense support and love to the actor on their social media platforms ever since they revealed he was battling dementia.
Willis and Heming are proud of the home they have created. The couple revealed that their house is filled with joy.
Willis has always been a caring father. When his daughter Ray was born, the actor admitted that he became happier than he’d ever been. He added that with his family, he was always in a good state of mind:
“I’ve learned that my life revolves around my family and friends. When I’m not working, my days are devoted to the women in my life. I don’t need anything more than that.”
The actor also said he had so much love to give his kids and was more open to giving affection as a father.
The “Die Hard” star noted that he was very protective of his daughters, but he easily showed them his soft side. He added that he has an easy relationship with his daughters, who have no problem telling him what they think or calling him out when he does something wrong:
“They would even tell me how to dress or complain if I would wear something they hated. But honestly I love that!”
When asked if he would behave differently as a father if he had boys too, the actor noted that he would still be protective of sons if he had them. However, Willis said sons tend to act independent at some point, while daughters always need their fathers.
Willis has also spoken out about how he was proud of his daughters, who are now adults. His daughters with Moore are adults, and Willis said he enjoyed having serious conversations with them.
The “Looper” star noted that he was happy he and Moore raised their daughters to be spirited and independent-minded. “As a father, it’s so gratifying to see that they’ve become very confident and engaging young women,” he added.
Willis also praised Heming as a mother and said she was a very good mom and a smart one who he depended on for great judgment in most circumstances. The actor added that he loved his wife so much and valued her opinion more than anyone else’s.
Heming has also praised Willis as a father. She shared a post of her husband on Father’s Day in 2022, where they were all having fun. In the photo, Willis lay on the floor while his wife and his daughters were all on top of him.
The kids and parents were laughing and seemed to be having lots of fun. Heming captioned the photo, “Happy Father’s Day to this fun, loving, generous, big-hearted girl dad. We simply adore you.”
Willis and Heming are proud of the home they have created. The couple revealed that their house is filled with joy. Heming added:
“…and the laughter and chatter of little girls being themselves, in a place we created with them in mind.”
Heming praised Willis and the way he had created a great home for their children. She noted that Willis was generous with his time and would wake up to tend to the kids despite having insomnia.
The model also said Willis is a great homemaker. She thanked his mother for raising a domesticated man who is good at housekeeping.
Heming added that her husband was great at repairing things in the house and gardening. She said the kids have taken up after him and love planting and picking things from the garden. “We now have our own mini farm-to-table setup, which is pretty special,” she added
Heming has now dedicated most of her time to raising awareness of dementia ever since her husband was diagnosed with the condition. Willis’ family revealed that his dementia had progressed, and there were no more treatment options to treat it.
The “Unbreakable” star’s family announced in 2022 that Willis was battling dementia and gave a more specific diagnosis in 2023.
An expert, Tim Parry, who weighed in on the medical diagnosis, noted that Willis’ condition currently has “no treatments to slow or stop” it. Parry is the Director at Alzheimer’s Research UK
Willis, who became a grandfather in 2023, can now only rely on caregivers, specialists, and family to help him manage the symptoms of his condition every day, as they is currently no treatment for dementia.
