Supermodel Cindy Crawford received backlash for her Instagram tribute to the late and great Tina Turner.
The post in question shows a carousel of two images – the first of Turner and the second of Crawford in a Turner-inspired look.
Fans of the iconic artist called Crawford’s post “inappropriate” and “narcissistic.”
The day news of famous Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Tina Turner’s passing broke was a day when the world stood still. Millions across the globe were devastated and immediately took to social media platforms to express loving tributes to the star. Countless heartfelt messages about how much of a powerhouse the icon was, flooded Instagram and Twitter, most notably.
Fans worldwide were inspired by the songstress’ ability to empower and mold the minds of a plethora of individuals who stem from different generations. Supermodel Cindy Crawford was one of the many celebrities who dedicated a post to Turner. Despite her giving credit to the singer for being the amazing woman she was, many commentators still felt that Crawford selfishly made the post about her.
Crawford’s tribute post showcased a carousel of two pictures in dedication to the musical legend. The first was a well-known picture of Turner posing in a pretty beaded short dress. The second photo was of Crawford in a pose and look directly inspired by and based on the singer.
She captioned the Instagram post with a heartwarming message about how much Turner inspired her and many others to be strong women. However, commentators were displeased by the fact that the model chose to include a picture of herself in a post that was meant to be all about Turner. One commentator was incredibly less than thrilled about Crawford’s post and commented:
“Wow! The narcissism of this post. Very important to get a picture of yourself in there as well, wow – just wow!”
A lot of Instagram users were not fond of Crawford’s post because of the general consensus that is widely held when paying respects to someone deceased in the form of a tribute. People feel that tributes should typically not include anything about the person paying the respects. Another user questioned:
“? Why is the second picture of yourself? Kind of inappropriate in this case.”
Although the vitriol was very apparent regarding Crawford’s questionable post, some supporters commented positively on the tribute. Instead of focusing on the addition of Crawford in the second picture, some chose to draw their attention to the main photo of Turner and countered the negativity by praising the singer and speaking about how much she is loved and adored.
Outside of Turner’s talents that touched the hearts of many who loved her, she was also largely celebrated by her fellow entertainers in the industry. Among the many tear-jerking tributes dedicated to her were the incredible likes of Angela Bassett, Beyoncé Knowles, Dionne Warwick, Berry Gordy, Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, Diana Ross, Bette Middler, and Diane Warren, to name a few.
Many more actors, musicians, and politicians used their platforms to voice the special relationships they shared with Turner. Even President Joe Biden and Barack Obama were included among the famous people making tributes.
Of the plethora of loving tributes, Bassett’s message was perhaps the most detailed and expansive. Having played Turner in the 1993 biopic “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” Bassett felt a particular kinship with the icon, who commended the way she portrayed her in the film. In her caption, Bassett wrote:
“Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like. Her final words to me – for me – were, ‘You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.’ ”
Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams was another close friend of Turner’s who was also devastated by her passing. The friends had recorded “It’s Only Love” as a duet in 1985.
A happy black and white photo of the two of them holding onto each other onstage and sharing a laugh accompanied his message. Adams spoke about how eternally grateful he will remain for Turner inviting him on tour, recording with him, and most importantly, being his friend.

“Tina would have so much energy during her performances and was a true entertainer. She created the blueprint for other great entertainers like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé, and her legacy will continue on through all high-energy performing artists.”
During what was believed to be her final remarks to the public, Turner was interviewed by The Guardian. When asked about how she would like to be remembered, Turner said:
“As the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. As a woman who showed other women that it is ok to strive for success on their own terms.”
