Adored by fans across the globe, 55-year-old Hugh Jackman is a multiple award-winning actor who’s best known as Logan, the quick-witted, sharp-clawed Wolverine in the X-Men franchise.
The Aussie star got his big break in 1995, with a leading role on the Australian TV show, Correlli, where he played alongside his future wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.
At the time, Furness was an established star and Jackman was fresh out of drama school.
Recalling his first meeting with Furness, Jackman shared with People in 2017, “Deb, she was a big star…I get picked up, and Deb is in the front seat of the car. I’ll never forget.” He continues,
“She took off her seatbelt and she turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl.’”
Furness, now 68, and the star of Les Misérables married in 1996 and share two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, whom they adopted.
Fans kept their eyes on the beloved couple, who was admired for their loyalty and longevity.
On April 11, 2023, the Tony Award-winning actor shared a heartfelt tribute to his wife, celebrating their anniversary.
Alongside a beautiful picture of the two with the city serving as the background, the star of the X-Men franchise writes, “I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”
Gushing over his post, fans jumped in with comments. “Faith in men (and in my love life) restored,” writes one cyber citizen. A second shares, “My daughter always tells her husband she loves him as much as Hugh loves Deb…says it all really.”
Shocking news
Five months later, some shocking news was released, and fans revisited the photo of the seemingly loving couple, expressing their distress.
One writes, “Remembered this post and had to come back to it today after reading news of the split. Hope both of you find deep peace.”
Another shares, “I just read that you and your wife are separated or separating? WTH? If you two don’t make it, there’s very little hope for the rest of us.”
In September 2023, the couple announced that after almost three decades together, they were splitting.
In a joint statement, the two said of ending their 27-year marriage, “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.” The note continues, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
The statement concludes “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”
Since the couple revealed they were divorcing, and unfollowed one another on Instagram, fans – out of concern – have kept a close watch on social media belonging to The Greatest Showman.
Over the past several months, Jackman has shared numerous snaps of him working out, hiking, rocking out at a Melissa Etheridge concert, and even hanging with Ryan Reynolds, who in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are best frenemies.
Then, in early December, the Emmy Award-winning actor shared a selfie on Instagram, where he’s seen wearing a light blue shirt, furrowed brows and eyes that are hidden behind his dark sunglasses.
Posting his best blue steel, the star of Real Steel writes, “Entirely too close.”
“Not close enough,” jokes one woman, while a second doting fan writes, “There is no such thing, as too close to Hugh Jackman.”
Meanwhile, in the second photo, fans noticed he looks “sad,” his mischievous smile missing.
One writes, “Where is that beautiful smile we all know, and love?” while a second shares “Looking a little serious there, Hugh.”
Speculating that perhaps the voice actor is experiencing some personal difficulties since the divorce, a third netizen rallies her support: “We have all been there. Completely get it. Hope your day gets better.”
Easing the hearts and mind of his adoring fans, Jackman posted another photo of him in London, where he’s again seen smiling. He captioned it, “Good morning London.”
“Now you’re starting to smile. Enjoy the lights of London that let the party atmosphere overcome and brighten your eyes and heart,” one fan writes. Another shares, “have a marvelous day and do what makes you happy.”
As Wolverine once said in X-Men, “the pain lets you know you’re still alive.” Though he might be hurting, he finds solace in suffering by feeling it.
